Description
The Playful Notebooks – C. P. Cavafy
Born, in 1863, in Egypt’s bustling port city, Alexandria, to affluent Constantinople Greeks, C. P. Cavafy is perhaps his generation’s most idiosyncratic poet. The Cavafian universe, introspective, enigmatic, voyeuristic, peculiarly ironic and stripped of poetic norms, roams the past and orbits persistently around the idea of memory. A poet-historian, as he himself identified, Cavafy contemplates our imperfect nature as he gleans forgotten figures from transitional junctures in Greece’s cultural narrative.
